At ProSMS.gr, we are constantly working to make our platform more secure, flexible, and easy to use. As part of this effort, we have introduced a new feature related to sending SMS via API: API Keys.
In simple terms, API Keys provide a more modern and secure way to send SMS through API integrations, without requiring the use of your main ProSMS.gr account username and password.
What changes in practice
Until now, sending SMS via the API required using the ProSMS.gr account username and password. While functional, this approach is no longer considered a best practice, especially when APIs are used by applications, servers, or third-party systems.
With the new feature, users can generate dedicated API Keys exclusively for API usage. This ensures that personal login credentials remain protected and are not embedded or exposed within code or applications.
Clear separation between account access and API usage
The most important advantage of API Keys is that they fully separate account access from API usage.
This means that:
- The API uses a dedicated key, not account login credentials
- An API key can be disabled immediately if needed
- Access to the main account always remains secure
With this approach, even if an API key is revoked or replaced, the ProSMS.gr account itself is not affected. Additionally, if a user changes their ProSMS.gr account password, there is no need to reconfigure the API with the new credentials.
Easy management directly from the platform
Creating and managing API Keys is done directly within the ProSMS.gr interface, without requiring any technical expertise.
Navigation path: History / Options → Security
From there, each user can:
- Create new API Keys
- Maintain up to 5 active API Keys
- Delete any API Key at any time
This provides full control and flexibility, especially for users managing multiple applications or different systems.
